**Two Fires Break Out in Garden City and Dix Hills on Thursday Morning**
Two fires erupted on Long Island within an hour on Thursday morning, creating significant disruptions in Garden City and Dix Hills.
Around 9:53 a.m., a fire ignited in a house on Meadow Street in Garden City, situated between College Place and Tremont Street. James Hickman, the assistant chief of the Nassau County fire marshal, reported that all occupants escaped safely, though the home is now uninhabitable.
Seven fire departments responded to the scene, and several firefighters sustained minor injuries. Thankfully, no one required hospitalization. According to Hickman, the fire began in an attached garage and quickly spread throughout the house, but firefighters managed to contain it within an hour.
Later, at approximately 11:40 a.m., a delivery truck caught fire in the back of Elwood Shopping Center at 1932 Jericho Turnpike in Dix Hills. The truck, a 2024 model, was in regeneration mode—a self-cleaning process for removing soot buildup—when the fire broke out. The driver had just finished delivering meat and fish to a restaurant.
The Dix Hills Fire Department extinguished the fire in around 20 minutes. No injuries were reported, and the truck did not suffer structural damage.
